Background: Reflecting back over 15 years of teaching, some of the best rewards have been watching my students’ smiles. It is the smiles after sharing a fresh track powder run, or the smiles after discovering that that new move really works or the huge smiles of accomplishment after completing that heinous bump run, that keep me coming back for more. For me, skiing and teaching skiing brings never-ending discovery. There always is a new run to be discovered, a new movement to harness, a new approach to teach that intermediate skier to break through to a black diamond. After a season ends I’m always counting down the days until the slopes open again, because I can’t wait to see those huge smiles and what new discoveries I’ll get to experience.
